10 Simple Ways To SHIFT Your MINDSET (And Stay Sane) While Social Distancing

Let's be real, social distancing is getting tough, and we aren't going to pretend it isn't. We all miss a lot of things, human contact to name just one. However, just because it is hard to settle into home isolation, does not mean we are going to give in and let our wandering minds takeover! We are in this together and will come out stronger; In the meantime, here are 10 at-home tools that are helping us disrupt our mindsets (and stay sane) during this time:

UNPLUG & UPLIFT.

Turn off the news, flip your phone on silent, and fill your space with music that you love. Keep it calm or get wild!

MUZE music picks: Tupac, Renegade, and "All the Feels" Playlist on Spotify are our current go-to's.

LIGHT IT.

If you have palo santo or sage, spark it! Sage releases negative ions into the air, boosting the mood, cleansing bacteria, and it also shifts negative energy out. Palo Santo, on the other hand, brings positive energy in. If you don't have these available, set an intention and light a candle or incense with purpose.

WRITE IT & BURN IT.

When you are feeling overwhelmed or fear-based, write it down. Free flow with your words, get it all out. Write your greatest fears and all of your feelings. Then...burn it! (In a safe place of course) and if you can't burn it, tear it up into pieces, let it go. After this is finished, write something that you are calling in, something you want to create, something you are asking for. Use the format "I AM _____" in the present tense and put this paper somewhere you will see it many times throughout your day.

MUZE Affirmation: "I AM creating the greatest health for myself, my family, and my community, and I will come out of this time of social distancing and home isolation in my power, living my passion, and fulfilling my purpose".

ZEN IN TEN BREATH.

If your thoughts are racing, let's slow them down with a breathing technique. Take a deep breath in and slowly let it out while you count in your mind from ten, down to 1. Repeat, focusing on the numbers, until you feel calmer.

GET CENTERED IN YOUR SURROUNDINGS.

When our thoughts get out of control, we can feel almost "out of body". In this state, sit down in a chair or on the ground, then: name 5 things around you that you see, 5 things around you that you hear, and 5 things around you can feel. Sit in this space, just calmly breathing until you feel more in your mind and body.

MIX UP THE ENERGY.

When in doubt, throw a dance party. Energy gets stagnant and we have to move it, to shift it! Get up, turn on your favorite dance songs, and let loose. Or log on to one of the virtual dance parties - they are happening daily!

VISUALIZE

Visualizations are powerful and they set dreams in motion! Close your eyes and take yourself on an adventure, picture yourself in the place where you want to take your next vacation, or see yourself in the future in your favorite setting, feeling everything you want to feel. Go slow and take your time, really immerse yourself in the element and let it refresh your state of mind.

WRITE A LETTER TO SOMEONE YOU LOVE.

Let's bring a letter-writing back! It's sweet. It's romantic. It's thoughtful. It's connecting in a much deeper way than a text or an email. Take some time to get out of your head and make someone's day by writing and mailing them a letter.

PICK A MANTRA.

When thoughts go to a negative place or are jumping from one place to another, replace them by repeating a word or a sentence that is calming. Try "peace", "love", "calm", or "I am safe and secure".

5 MINUTE HEART MOMENT.

Place your hands over your heart and close your eyes. Let your breathing gently flow in and out and finish these sentences out loud, or to yourself. Spend at least a minute on each, just letting the answer come.

"I am _______."

"I am connected to ________."

"I am grateful for _______."

We are sending you lots of LOVE from MODERN MUZE!
