Modern Muze is all about celebrating women this month and beyond. Part of our work is highlighting other women’s careers and showcasing why they’re ones to know about.
For Women’s History Month, we are showcasing three female founders whom we have exclusively interviewed in the past. These amazing figureheads are paving their own lane, creating opportunities for themselves and their hardworking teams.
From Muhza’s innovative cycle-syncing skincare to Heather Hemmens’ period-focused underwear, here are three women to celebrate this month—and all year long.
Alexia Coutts
Coutts is a Peruvian entrepreneur who spearheads her skincare brand Muhza in an innovative way: she connects skincare to the needs of the body’s menstrual cycle. Her advice to those who want to get into the skincare industry is, “Trust your perspective. You don’t have to conform to how others have done it before you,” she told Modern Muze. “The beauty industry needs new voices, new ideas, and new ways of thinking.”
She added, “Your background isn’t a barrier, it’s a foundation. Lean into it, even when it feels uncomfortable. And know that being underestimated can sometimes be your greatest advantage.”
Angélica Fuentes
Fuentes is a Mexican-American businesswoman, impact investor, and advocate for gender equality. She created a mindfulness and wellness ritual kit company, NOWFUL, using a different formula. She uses a holistic approach to self-care, which is something that’s both intriguing and innovative.
Fuentes’ advice to those who want to get into the beauty/wellness industry is, “My advice to other Latina entrepreneurs is to trust your vision and think big. Believe in yourself!”
Heather Hemmens
Hemmens is elevating the period underwear game with her company. Galifornia Undies is a line of fashionable period underwear for those who struggle with heavy flows. It’s described as “a soft, stylish, and empowering line of period-focused panties designed to help women feel beautiful and confident during their cycle.”
Her advice to those who want to get into the lingerie industry? “Find something that enhances your life, and it will do the same for others!” she told Modern Muze.
