How Heather Hemmens’ Galifonia Undies Is Elevating Period-Focused Underwear

Period underwear is finally being elevated. For those who need extra support, Costa Rican-American actress and entrepreneur Heather Hemmens is leading the way with her new innovative proposal: Galifornia Undies.

Launching on Thanksgiving, Galifornia Undies is a line of fashionable period underwear for those who struggle with heavy flows. It’s described as “a soft, stylish, and empowering line of period-focused panties designed to help women feel beautiful and confident during their cycle.” Made with PFAS-free cotton lining and with Oeko Tex certified fabrics, the underwear company is spearheading lingerie that is both comfortable and safe to wear. And honestly, what better way to experience your period without the fear of spotting?

To get a better insight into her new underwear line, Modern Muze talked to Hemmens about the inspiration behind Galifornia Undies, what makes her underwear different, and what she hopes her audience gets from her new brand.

P.S. Beyond launching Galifornia Undies, you can also see the Afro-Latina star as “Lily-Anne” in Hallmark’s new Christmas film, The Snow Must Go On. It is set to be released on November 28!

How do your Afro-Latina roots influence Galifornia Undies?

I was diagnosed with fibroids, which is very common among black women. It caused heavy periods that inspired me to design a line of period underwear to help make our lives easier and more fashionable during these times!

How long have you been working on Galifornia Undies products? When was it officially formed?

I had the idea for Galifornia Undies about a year and a half ago. I got to work on it right away!

What was the moment you knew you needed to be part of the period-focused panties’ evolution?

I was on set filming a Hallmark movie in a big white wedding dress. I was on my period, and it was so heavy that I had to keep disappearing into the bathroom every 30 minutes to prevent staining the white dress. It was in that moment that I knew I wanted something better for these situations for myself and other women.

What takes Galifornia Undies different from other brands?

Our period undies are cute! That is the most obvious thing that sets them apart, but they also all have PFAS-free cotton lining and are made with Oeko Tex certified fabrics, which make them not only more flattering, but also a safer option!

What challenges as a Latina entrepreneur have you faced?

Financing is always a challenge, and I didn’t feel it was the right time to raise funds, so I am the sole investor in my brand.

What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs as a Latina in the lingerie industry?

Find something that enhances your life, and it will do the same for others!

Tell us about your goal with Galifornia Undies and what you hope the audience gets from the brand.

I want women to have a better period, which I believe leads to a better life. Period.
