Scoring big in women’s sports is due, quite simply, to authenticity and connection. Neutrogena is here to make the opening play, by encouraging Latinas in sports to thrive both on and off the field! Women are just natural storytelling champions and female athletes are veterans at engagement and relating on a multi-generational and multicultural field.

Beyond the changing landscape, though, a key element propelling women’s sports is the athletes themselves. There’s a different level of respect that’s  been  earned.  On the field and now off the field. Female athletes are also being spotlighted at more fashion and beauty-fueled events like the Academy Awards and the Met Gala. Let’s face it, sports events  ARE  the new red carpet.

This isn’t a PR circuit training course. By no means. There’s a serious game on the line.

Beauty’s playing field has expanded, and the scoreboard is lighting up. Female athletes are now the faces gracing campaign billboards. These are the glowing, resilient faces of real competitiveness,  real challenges,  real blood, sweat and tears to be the best at your sport.

The Initiative

Neutrogena is  focusing on empowering  women, making a deeper connection between the way beauty impacts how we feel about ourselves and the implications this can have on sports performance.

On December 4th, Neutrogena made the opening play and  Modern Muze was in uniform  front and center! The armour : a shiny nude lip,  slick pony and Ultra Sheer SPF 60+ moisturizing face serum sunscreen.

Ready to dive into this high-stakes game? Modern Muze is breaking down the playbook: Why women in sports are proving to go hand in hand with beauty. Not once compromising feminine power and strength.

Flag-football Star Diana Flores

Diana Flores, the trailblazing star quarterback of Mexico’s gold medal-winning Women’s Flag Football National Team, led invited guests in drills that have made her a shining example for her country. Beginning her career at just eight years old in Ciudad De Mexico, Flores competed against girls twice her age, as youth leagues were scarce at the time. Despite facing numerous setbacks and hearing ‘no’ repeatedly, Flores remained undeterred, driven by her passion for the game. As the sole female player in a boys’ flag football league in Mexico and later in the United States, Flores’s determination paved the way for her to become a world champion and NFL ambassador a decade later. Today, flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, with official recognition in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Flores notes that the growth of opportunities for girls and the sport as a whole is remarkable, marking just the beginning of many doors opening for the next generation of flag football athletes to achieve their dreams on and off the field. Through her platform, Flores continues to advocate for women in sports, championing inclusivity and empowerment.

Touchdown to Radiance:  Navigating sun, sports and skincare.  “Sports has allowed me to grow on the field as an athlete,  as well as empowering me as a woman by tapping into my true self. I have been representing México for 10 years and I’ve realized that I can be fearless and fierce on the field as well as beautiful in my own skin and stepping into my feminine power. With a brand like Neutrogena that is not sports-focused, but rather beauty-focused, co-hosting this event means a lot because it symbolizes the breaking of stereotypes. . . We can have both because we are both. “

Legacy with MJ Acosta-Ruiz

Off the field and calling all the shots, we caught up with MJ Acosta-Ruiz,  a trailblazer, leveraging her exceptional talent and dedication to make a lasting impact at ESPN as a SportsCenter anchor and sideline reporter for ESPN Deportes’ Monday Night Football, paving the way for a brighter future in sports journalism. With unwavering passion, she drives a movement of women’s empowerment and inclusivity, inspiring a new generation of leaders to strive for a brighter, more equitable future. As a dedicated advocate for representation and equality, Acosta-Ruiz is deeply involved with women’s empowerment organizations such as “A Seat at the Table.” In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of communications and her steadfast commitment to inclusivity, she was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from Barry University, her alma mater, in 2024.

As an  Afro-Latina in sports media you can say she is a rare gem and loyal to her Neutrogena SPF 40. “Being the first and only in a lot of rooms is always interesting.  It’s never intimidating.  Knowing who I am representing feels like a big point of pride for me. It was never a hinderence. I used it as a superpower. “

Latinas in sports & Imposter Syndrome: Never!

On the subject of  imposter syndrome,  “I wouldn’t say there isn’t any, it depends on the room. However,  in terms of walking into a lockeroom or clubhouse:  Never. “  Regarding the correlation of women in sports, “There’s always been a misconception that you have to strip away your femininity to be in this male-dominated industry and that is something I never wanted to lean into. Instead, choosing to lean into your own womanhood…because it is so personal and subjective to your story.  The prox of it all: making sure you are healthy and your skin is healthy so you can feel your best and do your best. “  Finding balance in the  responsibility of advocating for diversity in sports and excelling in journalism can be daunting when taking on the role of the gatekeeper for the masses. “… the two are intertwined at every point. Navigating through bilingual sports media in a multitude of cultures,  the path I am carving isn’t just for myself, it’s for generations to come. “

This is legacy. On and off the field.
